A Sneak Peak at the New Logo for Intergenerational Partnership for Sustainability in the IUCN

The Task Force on Intergenerational Partnership for Sustainability formed in 2011 to promote youth engagement and intergenerational partnership in service of the IUCN's vision of a "a just world that values and conserves biodiversity."

Although the Task Force and the Commissions' young professional networks from which it emerged have been active in engaging and promoting youth projects in the lead up to the 2012 IUCN World Conservation Congress, these efforts have had no visual identity that captures the energy of youth, the wisdom of elders, and the exchange of ideas and collaboration between generations.

To increase visibility for this key approach to achieving sustainability, the Task Force launched a logo competition in June 2012. Entrants from around the world were asked to design a logo that captures the themes of youth engagement and mutual learning and collaboration across generations. The process was led by Rebecca Koss (CEESP and WCPA), Catie Burlando (CEESP) and Dominic Stucker (CEC).

We are pleased to announce that the winning logo was designed by Ivan Onatra of Colombia and provides a visual identity for the Task Force and all IUCN initiatives in which a diversity of generations are represented and engaged in on-the-ground projects and programs, research, and decision-making processes. We are excited to give you a sneak peak of the new Intergenerational Partnership for Sustainability logo:

Our new logo should be used when there is a special emphasis on youth engagement and collaboration across generations in Council, Secretariat, Comission, and Member Organization projects, appearing beside the appropriate IUCN, Commission, or Member logo. To use the Intergenerational Partnership logo for your project or initiative leading up to the Congress and beyond, please contact Task Force Co-Conveners Catie Burlando (catie@culturallandscapes.ca) or Dominic Stucker (dominic.stucker@gmail.com).

The official official logo launchwill take place at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Jeju, South Korea on the 9th September 2012 from 16.30-17:00 in the Just World Pavilion Come and join us - you'll get a free logo pin!

We hope to see a diversity of IUCN staff, Commission members, Member Organization representatives, and Councilors at the official logo launch and encourage you to support the dawning of increased engagement of all generations in and through the Union for sustainability outcomes!
