We had 38 people from 20 countries, ranging in age from 18 to 78. It was a real pleasure to have this IPS wide call. The number of you who signed up on Skype was incredible and we are incredibly energized by your inspiration. Thank you!

2. Summary of Working Groups and actions needed

Working Group 1: Youth Engagement at the 2016 World Conservation Congress.
Goal: Coordinate youth activities at the congress and organize 3 events with IPS partners.

Next steps:

1. Event: High-Level Event “Together for nature, creating the future we want” (Mariasole Bianco)
○ Send your feedback by 15 May and suggest internationally recognized speakers here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1r3UC7qgcha-Y_Nqxss8gYnVwkEprPBCefPHwrf8e2ds

2. Event: Intergenerational Partnerships at IUCN: Taking Stock & Moving Forward (Melanie Zurba and Biozid Jessorey)
○ Identify a specific format and venue for the event, with potential speakers and facilitators that help to draw out our next steps
○ Develop a communication strategy for advertising this and all YIP events at the Congress.

3. Event: Advancing conservation through intergenerational collaboration (Florent Kaiser and Melanie Zurba)
○ Call for volunteers and form event working group (2-3 volunteers needed)
○ Develop concept and start feedback process (by 12 June)
○ Open video application process (1 June to 20 June) and select 5 presenters (by 1 July)
○ Fundraising for grants to get presenters to the event (~ USD 10,000)
○ Select Dragon’s Den jury

Working Group 2: External Communication and Alliance Building

Goal: Build a broad alliance leading to and beyond Congress. We have three specific initiatives we would like our IPS partners to support.

Next steps:
  • Connect to the youth movement in Hawai’i (June Chee)
  • Support the development of the post-Congress “Earth Works, Arts and Music Tour” (Elaine Hsiao)
○ We are looking for support in securing additional work sites, accommodations, meals, transport, musicians and artists, etc.
○ We are also looking for support in fundraising and resourcing
○ And of course, we invite everyone to stay and participate for some or all of it! Dates: Sept 12-22nd, 2016
  • Connect to #Natureforall movement – (Tomasz Wiercioch and Karen Keenleyside)
○ Currently developing the programme scope, communication material, and programming for the World Conservation Congress (WCC)
○ Looking for YP and other who are ready to roll up their sleeves to aid in executing NFA’s 2016 WCC programme and the future NFA programme component within the IUCN’s 2017-2020 Programme.

Working Group 3: Internal Communication and Knowledge Management

Goal: This WG will focus primarily on keeping the IPS on track, manage week-to-week operations and work very closely with WG 1 and WG 2.

Next steps:
  1. Volunteer to join the WG group
  2. Supporting IPS regular Skype calls and follow-up meeting notes;
  3. Updating the IPS Wikispace and the Facebook page(s);
  4. Writing newsletter pieces - for the Commissions and then sharing them across all Commissions.

Working Group 4: Strategy for Youth Engagement and Intergenerational Partnership, 2014-2018 (IPS Strategy) and Empowerment

Goal: Looks up to and beyond the Congress, and seeks to strengthen the Task Force in the next program period and work on the Youth Engagement strategy and IPS Strategy.

Next steps:
  1. Support the finalization of the “Leadership training and capacity building program”

  1. i. Help us brainstorm a short and snappy title;
  2. ii. Help us develop the concept
  3. iii. Brainstorm ideas for funding
  4. iv. Understand how this becomes a clear legacy for/from the Congress
○ Plan its delivery at the Congress (it could be unveiled during the IPS Task Force event)
  1. Seek support of Commissions to appoint YP, IUCN to designate an IPS liaison in their offices, and think about a long term funding and governance structure.
  2. Contribute to council's ongoing discussions about the future of the Task Force and its purpose within the Union, as well as YP representation in Council.
  3. Requires work before Congress but will especially builds out of the IPS Action Planning event at Congress to revise the Strategy, identify objectives & measureable outcomes.

3. Summary of Decisions

All this information will be posted on the IPS Wikispace so that you know who is in each WG and what the key tasks are.

  1. 1. Florent: Write up full and summary versions of notes - DONE
  2. 2. WG Leads: Update Working Group members on the Wikispace
  3. 3. Eva Liliana (Spanish), Houehounha Dodé (French): Translate these summary notes into French and Spanish, and circulate
  4. 4. Working Groups: communicate via email and set up Skype call(s) throughout May and June to move their work forward
  5. 5. All (organized by WG3): Hold next ‘All-in’ IPS Task Force meeting in July for Working Groups updates and next steps toward the WCC
